Burtwistle was born in Eccles and is a Manchester United fan. His bio explains that his mum, Michelle, had three jobs to bring him up and his sister Tasha. He remains involved with grassroots side Winton Wanderers – he still coaches an Under-18 side there – where he once played, and gained fame after a clip from a stream with Wayne Rooney went viral, prompting the duo to team up at Old Trafford during Soccer Aid 2025.
How the 2025 final was won
The series aired from 16 November to 7 December 2025 and was once again filmed at Springbrook National Park, close to the Queensland border. In the last two, Angryginge received 65% of the vote compared to Tom Read Wilson’s 35%. Shona McGarty was eliminated third. The final is thought to have drawn over 6.5 million viewers. Wilson doesn’t seem to bear a grudge. Prior to the decision, he stated that the crown belonged to the “titan of the trials.” Burtwistle said his mother had instilled persistence in him.

Fame does not get you the crown. Peter Andre, Katie Price, Joel Dommett, John Barrowman and Nick Knowles all made it into the house, and none of them won. Sometimes the overall winner has been up against a more famous finalist. Blackburn beat Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and Christine Hamilton, Jill Scott beat Owen Warner and Matt Hancock, Sam Thompson beat Tony Bellew and Nigel Farage, and Danny Jones beat Coleen Rooney.
Then there’s McFly. Poynter’s bandmate Danny Jones entered the 2024 series in the hope of winning as well. Giovanna Fletcher, who won the show in 2020, is married to Tom Fletcher from McFly. Not only that, but Poynter’s bandmate’s wife, Giovanna, is also a winning contestant. She married fellow winner Joe Swash.
The calendar displays its quirks of its own. Kerry Katona won one in February 2004, with Joe Pasquale winning another that December. The 2007 series, won by Biggins, was the first to go for 20 days, rather than the usual 14. When it moved to Wales for the pandemic, Fletcher became the first Queen of the Castle and Danny Miller the first King of the Castle the following year. He won the 2021 final, beating Simon Gregson and Frankie Bridge, with filming at Gwrych Castle.
The All Stars winners
South Africa spin-off has its own table of winners, so these two names wouldn’t normally appear at the top of the chart alongside the original series champions. Both had “something to prove”. Myleene Klass, runner-up in series six, was crowned champion in May 2023 in the first All Stars series. Adam Thomas, third in 2016, was elected winner in the second All Stars series on 24 April 2026, ahead of Mo Farah and Harry Redknapp. The final was aired live in London.
What comes next
The 26th series is scheduled for November 2026, and the identity of the line-up is traditionally revealed just days ahead of it returning to screens. The pair is expected to present from Australia, once again. Until the official line-up is revealed, any names that are floating around are just rumour.
Those who enter the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Jungle come from all walks of life, and none of those from past series that have gone on to become winners have been in the same mould. There have been singers, soap stars, a chef, a footballer and a streamer – and it’s the public’s vote that’s gone wherever the show has led it.
Final Thoughts
The I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! winners list shows how unpredictable the public vote can be. 59-year-old radio DJ Tony Blackburn was the first winner in 2002, while 24-year-old streamer Angryginge from Salford triumphed in 2025 with 65 per cent of the final-two vote. In between, winners have included singers, soap actors, a chef, a footballer and a cricketer.
Series 26 is due in November 2026, and the cast is traditionally revealed just days before it begins. So for now, take anything you hear with a grain of salt – past winners suggest any of hundreds of celebrities could be next.
